After the much debated exit from Singur, Tata Motors enters the state of Gujarat and is likely to have identified site at Charodi in Sanand, near Ahmedabad.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi and Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata will hold a joint press conference at 5.30 pm today to announce the new Nano plant site, the report added.
The report said that Tata Motors will receive support from the Gujarat Government, which will give around 1,000 acres from Anand Agricultural University for Nano Project. Also the government has promised Tatas with tax sops, ready land, and highway connectivity.
Going forward, the report said that Gujarat Government may give land to Tata Motors on lease for 90 years. Whereby, Tata Motors is likely to pay Rs 1 crore to the government every year.
The report said that a Memorendum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between Tata Motors and the Gujarat State Government in the evening.
Earlier on October 3, Tata Motors had pulled out of Singur. In a meeting held with the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Minister in Charge, Department of Commerce & Industries, Nirupam Sen - Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons & Tata Motors and Ravi Kant, Managing Director, Tata Motors, expressed their extreme anguish at the heightened level of agitation and hostility by the opposition parties led by Mamata Banerjee, resulting in a concern for the physical security of their staff, contractors and vendors.
Threats, intimidation and instances of assault and general obstruction in one form or the other were the reasons. Therefore, Tata and Ravi Kant conveyed to the Chief Minister that in the interest of the project's success and viability and in light of the opposition's continued agitation, there was no option but to move the project out of the state of West Bengal.
