Ezhuthachan award for ONV Kurup

Well-known poet and lyricist O N V Kurup has been chosen for the Kerala Government's prestigious Ezhuthachan award.

State Culture Minister M A Baby on Wednesday called on Kurup at his residence here to inform him of the decision to confer the state government's highest literary award on him considering his outstanding contribution to Malayalam poetry and culture.

Kurup, who has a literary career spanning about five decades as poet, lyricist and academic, was selected for the honour by a three-member panel, comprising writers M Mukundan, P Govinda Pillai and Sugatha Kumari.

Kurup said he was glad to receive an honour instituted in the name of Thuachath Ezhuthachan, revered as the father of Malayalam literature.
